Topsail United Church will be holding a flea market and Moose Burger sale on Saturday,, Oct. 24, Flea Market will be from 9 Until 1 P.M. Admission $ 1. Burgers will be available from 10 until 1 or until we sell out. Cost of Burgers $ 5 each. All are Welcome.
Halloween at St. James United Church: This year, we have decided to pivot to an indoor event. On Sunday, October 25, 2026 from 2-3:30pm, we will be offering pumpkin decorating for the children. **no pumpkin carving will be done.** There is no cost for this event and pumpkins will be provided. There is a limited number of pumpkins available so first come, first serve. Also, all children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Location: 330 Elizabeth Avenue, St. John's. MULTI-FAITH SERVICE FOR PEACE, OCTOBER 27, 11 A.M., AT The Basilica: On October 27th, 1986, Pope John Paul II and religious leaders from across the world gathered in Assisi to fast and pray for peace. The Spirit of Assisi expresses the commitment of believers of different faiths to come together in prayer, mutual respect, and dialogue. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Assisi Gathering. On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. John’s is hosting a Multifaith Service of Peace at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. We are inviting all the other faith communities to come together with us in a spirit of prayer, and mutual respect to collectively pray for peace for our troubled world. A reception will follow.
The Twelve Steps: A Spiritual Journey is a program offered at The Lantern on Barnes Road. The original Twelve Steps were designed by Alcoholics Anonymous and have been adapted to meet the needs of people who struggle with other substances and personal challenges. Many of the steps are based on biblical concepts such as honesty, admitting wrongs and surrendering to the God of one’s belief. There is no fee for attending. A program workbook can be purchased at the sessions. Some past participants have said this program helped them to deepen to their faith and renew their relationship with God and others. Join the NSO for a Night at the Cabaret: The NSO invites you to Sinfonia 1: A Night at the Cabaret, featuring incredible guest soprano soloist Danika Lorèn together with the NSO Sinfonia under the direction of Simon Rivard. The evening opens with music from John Kander and Fred Ebb’s Cabaret, bringing the sound of the theatre straight into the hall. Songs by William Bolcom follow, continuing that cabaret tradition. Additional works by Kurt Weill, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Jacques Ibert bring variety to the second half of the program, from the well-known waltz by Dimitri Shostakovich to theatrical song and lighter orchestral pieces, creating an evening shaped by stage music, memorable tunes, and strong character(s). Sinfonia 1 takes place on October 17 beginning at 7:30pm at the DF Cook Recital Hall at Memorial University’s School of Music. Cowan Heights United Church: Darrin Martin will be performing at the Cowan Heights United Church on Friday October 16th at 7pm; tickets go on sale in September so be sure to mark your calendars now! Darrin is a well-known performer and musician throughout Newfoundland/Labrador and Nova Scotia. These days he can be seen (and heard!) performing with Spirit of Newfoundland Productions (since 2004), Our Divas Do Christmas, Sheila Williams Productions and at a variety of events throughout our beautiful province. Darrin is also a full-time visual artist (this poster features a piece by Darrin himself)! He and his wife, Georgina, operate the studio and gallery known as NorthSide Studios NL. Together they homeschool their three daughters, Grace, Faith and Hope. Add in a zoo of pets, and you have the formula for a very colourful life!
